Canon Canonet 28 or Canon Rebel X?

I'm enrolled in a compulsory photography 101 class and I need to buy my own Film SLR camera tomorrow. I'm choosing between a Canonet 28 or Canon Rebel X. I have 0 knowledge about photography and I have no other criteria for my camera but which is easier to use and what would give best results. Some details on the net don't give much and even though they would, I wouldn't understand. Thanks so much for those who'd help!
